DHYG 131: Restorative & Dental Materials I

This course introduces the student to selected dental materials and to basic restorative dentistry procedures and techniques. The course is designed to give students a working knowledge of skills required for restorative dentistry. This class may include students from multiple sections.

  1. Explain the principles of cavity design and cavity preparation.
  2. Identify classes of dental materials used in dentistry.
  3. Discuss general properties and characteristics of dental materials.
  4. Manipulate the dental materials introduced this quarter, following the manufacturers' directions and safety precautions.
  5. Demonstrate the principles of selected restorative dentistry skills and procedures including self-evaluation criteria.
