This course offers access to John Deere mechanized forestry simulators. Students will complete modules designed to practice and refine mechanized timber skills associated with multiple steps in the timber harvest process. Students will use simulators to practice falling, processing, and transport of timber at a harvest site. The focus of time on these simulators will be on safety, productivity and adherence to local policies and regulations. This class may include students from multiple sections.
Course Outcomes
- Operate simulators to model the use of timber fellers, processors, and loaders.
- Achieve productivity targets associated with mechanized forestry.
- Enact and follow safety guidelines associated with the various machines the simulators serve as practice for.
- Apply forestry machines in a wide variety of landscapes and under different management regulations.
