This course is designed for people working as a Medical Assistant - Registered that would like to meet the requirements for the Medical Assistant - Certified credential from the Washington State Department of Health. Students will have online coursework to complete via the Canvas learning management system as well as at least three in person skills challenge days. This class may include students from multiple sections.

Prerequisites

Active First Aid/BLS certification through the American Heart Association, active DOH-issued MA-R credentials, completion of at least 720 hours of work as an MA-R, and current employment with a partner healthcare organization.

  1. Demonstrate proficiency with basic medical testing procedures.
  2. Follow laws and regulations relevant to the healthcare professions.
  3. Use medical terminology correctly.
  4. Perform electrocardiography.
  5. Administer parenteral medications, including injections.
  6. Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture.
