EDUC 420: The Child and the Classroom

Teacher Candidates examine current theory and research related to classroom communities and expand upon/apply their educational philosophy by connecting to the practice of building and maintaining a classroom community that involves families and is both culturally and trauma informed and responsive. This class may include students from multiple sections.

Prerequisites

Teacher Education BAS Program Admittance; Concurrent enrollment in EDUC 425

  1. Formulate a rationale for effective, research-based strategies for creating and maintaining a classroom that is culturally and trauma informed and responsive.
  2. Develop and apply effective strategies to promote student learning, encourage collaboration, cooperation, positive social interactions, conflict management resolution, individual and group motivation, behavior interventions, and individual learner needs.
  3. Create a personal, detailed Classroom Environment Plan based on effective, research-based practices that are culturally and trauma informed and responsive that includes family involvement/communication and builds on funds of knowledge theory.
