This course provides integration of strategies and activities for incorporating physical education and health into the elementary school setting with a focus on wellness. Concepts and skills will be introduced for promoting a safe and healthy lifestyle. This class may include students from multiple sections.

Course Outcomes
- Demonstrate general understanding of how learners grow and develop kinesthetically, considering motor skills, rhythms, sensory needs, and how they are related to neurological development and physical and emotional wellness.
- Demonstrate and apply instructional cues, prompts, physical activities and feedback to facilitate the development of basic motor skills, rhythms, and wellness.
- Identify and explain proper risk strategies, safety precautions, supervision, and legal issues relevant to children in the traditional classroom, gymnasium, and/or playground.
- Identify and explain state and health department safety procedures to enhance the physical and emotional wellness of children in the elementary classroom.
- Apply knowledge of the Washington Health and Physical Education state learning standards to lesson planning that includes but is not limited to culturally and trauma informed and responsive practices.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of the prevention and management of common illnesses, diseases, and personal safety.
- Demonstrate the ability to access resources (including technology) for adapting curriculum to individual student needs in health and physical education.
