Builds on foundational skills developed in Practicum I, offering students continued hands-on experience in early childhood education settings. Under the supervision of a qualified mentor teacher, students will engage in more advanced planning, implementation, and assessment of developmentally appropriate practices for children from birth to age eight. Emphasis is placed on fostering inclusive learning environments, supporting diverse learners, and applying reflective teaching strategies. Students will deepen their understanding of child development, curriculum integration, and professional ethics through direct interaction with children and educational staff. This class may include students from multiple sections. STARS approved.
Course Outcomes
- Adapt teaching practices by applying, expanding, and integrating content knowledge across academic disciplines to support meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for all children.
- Utilize screening and assessment tools in ways that are ethically grounded and developmentally, ability, culturally, and linguistically appropriate, in order to document children’s developmental progress and promote positive learning outcomes.
- Identify and create multiple opportunities for young children to develop and practice play skills through meaningful play experiences, both independently and with peers, across a variety of natural and inclusive learning contexts.
- Engage in ongoing reflective practice and evidence-based resources to continuously improve teaching practices and support positive outcomes for young children.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ethical standards and professional guidelines in early childhood education, applying them to decision-making, interactions, and teaching practices in diverse educational settings.
